Board Member Spotlight: Deanna McAtee, Secretary, The Community Project

ree

Today we’re proud to spotlight Deanna McAtee, who serves as Secretary of The Community Project. Deanna brings passion, purpose, and a unique blend of warmth and wit to everything she does—from detailed board work to rolling up her sleeves to serve the community hands-on.

What does “community” mean to her?

“To me, community is a feeling—a feeling like home, even when you're far from where you started. It means supporting and encouraging what is good and wholesome for the betterment of those around you.”

Why do grassroots efforts like The Community Project matter so much?

“If we don't do this, who will? If we don't step up to meet the most basic needs—food, water, warm clothing, shelter—then how can we expect things to improve? These efforts are about human decency, and I could go on and on about how important that is.”

Where you’ll find her on a Saturday?

If the weather’s nice, Deanna is likely out hiking or behind a camera lens, capturing the beauty of nature. On rainy days, she enjoys antique hunting and repurposing old treasures. And if it's spring—she’s on the lookout for Spring Peepers!

 Dinner guest of choice?

Huckleberry Finn.

Why? “Because who wouldn’t want to enjoy hobo dinners over a campfire with Huck? I’m sure there’d be questionable table manners, but I’d expect a great story and a lot of laughter.”

Deanna’s thoughtful perspective, creativity, and commitment to compassion make her an essential part of The Community Project’s mission—and we are so grateful for her voice at the table.
