Board Member Spotlight: Meet Rachel Reynolds, Co-Founder & President, The Community Project

ree

Rachel Reynolds is more than just a leader—she's one of the heartbeats behind The Community Project. As a co-founder and our current President, Rachel brings an unmatched passion for people, a tireless work ethic, and a fierce belief in what a united community can accomplish.

What does “community” mean to Rachel?

“Community is when ordinary people come together to do extraordinary things,” she says. “It’s generosity without condition, love without agenda, and a hand held out simply because you can. It’s reminding your neighbor that even in the hardest times, you’re not forgotten.”

Rachel has spent years building a network rooted in compassion and action—one that continues to show up, again and again. “I’ve yet to bring a need to my network that we haven’t been able to meet. It’s truly incredible what we’ve been able to accomplish together.”

What would she love to see in our community?

Honestly, I can't name just one—because there's so much potential for meaningful impact.

I would love to see more affordable housing and the development of a drop-in center or a more accessible homeless shelter. I’d love to see expanded access to food pantries, a reliable form of secondary transportation, and perhaps most importantly, a shift in the perception of homelessness.

How do we make these things happen? By working hand-in-hand—with community members, local leaders, and policymakers. Through education, shared experiences, and by creating more opportunities to volunteer, we can bridge gaps and foster understanding. I want more people to witness firsthand the reality I see every day—the resilience, the need, and the hope.

I believe in building a community that is proactive rather than reactive. Yes, restaurants, nightlife, and thriving businesses make a city look attractive—but the true soul of a community lies in how we care for one another. The resources available, the compassion we extend, and the sense of belonging we create—those are what make a place truly livable. And I’d be willing to bet, for many of you, that’s exactly why you’ve stayed here. Because this community makes you feel safe, supported, and seen—and that is something worth building on.

When you're not volunteering, where might we find you on a Saturday afternoon?

I don’t often have much free time, but when I do, you’ll most likely find me fishing with a cozy bonfire crackling nearby—because really, who doesn’t love that unmistakable smell of a bonfire? When the weather keeps me indoors, I’m curled up with my two rescue pups, Alex and Aries, watching Hallmark Christmas movies or diving into a good book. It’s my perfect kind of downtime.

If I could have dinner with any historical or fictional character, it would absolutely be John F. Kennedy.

“John F. Kennedy,” Rachel says without hesitation. “He had such a powerful and inspiring vision, a deep love for people, and bold ideas for change. I feel like we could’ve talked for hours about community, courage, and making the world better. And let’s be honest—his charm didn’t hurt either.”

Rachel, thank you for your vision, your heart, and your unwavering commitment to making our communities stronger, more compassionate, and more connected.
