The Community Project would like to extend a HUGE thank you to Dan McCabe, owner of the Whiskey City Liberty Theater, for hosting our 2nd Annual Homegrown Music Festival.
The Liberty Theater is more than a venue — it’s an experience. We are beyond grateful to share an event that means so much to us in a space that carries so much history, heart, and hometown pride.
A Legacy of “Whiskey City USA”
Founded in 1802, Lawrenceburg has supplied whiskey to the world for over two centuries — earning the name “Whiskey City USA.” Distilleries date back as early as 1809, and by 1855 the city was home to numerous operations drawing from the region’s limestone-filtered aquifer. Today, Ross & Squibb Distillery proudly continues that world-class whiskey legacy from its historic roots established in 1847 as Rossville Union Distillery.
Built in 1893
Originally constructed as a German music hall called Liedertafel (meaning “song table”),

the Liberty Theater has been a gathering place for over 130 years. Converted to a movie house in 1921 and renamed during WWII, it has long been a cornerstone of downtown culture and celebration.
Restored in 2023
With more than 30 years in the live music industry, Dan McCabe has lovingly revived the long-dormant Liberty Theater into a vibrant performance venue dedicated to artist development and the celebration of all things Whiskey City. His impressive career includes programming Sudsy Malone’s, presenting shows at The Southgate House, serving as Executive Producer of the MidPoint Music Festival, and helping found downtown Cincinnati venues MOTR Pub and the Woodward Theater.

Today, the Liberty features:
A stunning historic performance hall with professional production capabilities
Stage Left Whiskey Bar — featuring bourbons, whiskey flights, and rotating draft selections
Stage Right Kitchen — serving fresh-made River Town soul food, including smash burgers and regionally loved black pepper fried chicken
Built in 1893 as the home of the Liedertafel Society, it remains the longest-standing public hall in downtown Lawrenceburg — and thanks to this restoration, it’s poised to serve our community for another century.
“For those that make music, and those who feel it.
For those who enjoy local whiskey with friends and neighbors.
For those who have shared this river town stage since 1893.”
We are honored to host Homegrown Music Festival in such a meaningful and historic place.
